About The Opportunity

JDL Recruitment are delighted to be partnering with a state-backed Middle East energy and digital infrastructure platform, building a portfolio of large-scale, power-led data centre campuses across Europe, as they look to expand their team with a Director – Business Development & Site Acquisition.

This is a permanent position based in Spain, covering Iberia and southern Europe with scope to extend into the Nordics and Central Europe as the platform expands. The role offers a competitive package reflecting the seniority of this platform-defining hire.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead origination and land acquisition end to end, from initial approach through options, exclusivity, negotiation and completion.
  • Build and manage a pipeline of land, powered land, powered shell and brownfield opportunities across priority European markets.
  • Secure grid capacity, power reservations and utility agreements, and integrate renewable generation, PPAs and storage into site strategy.
  • Originate and structure platform acquisitions, joint ventures and development partnerships to speed up market entry.
  • Set the planning, zoning and permitting pathway, working with municipalities, regulators and community stakeholders.
  • Present site business cases and build-versus-buy recommendations to the executive team and Investment Committee, and build a European origination team as the pipeline grows.

Requirements:

  • 10+ years' experience across data centres, energy, infrastructure, industrial real estate or large-scale development, with significant site origination and acquisition exposure.
  • Proven track record of taking land or powered sites to secured, developable status in European markets.
  • Strong knowledge of grid connection, power procurement and permitting in Spain and at least one other European market.
  • Experience structuring land transactions, options, joint ventures, partnerships or platform acquisitions.
  • Established network across landowners, utilities, developers, brokers and authorities in southern Europe, and willingness to travel extensively.
  • Fluent English and Spanish are essential; an additional European language is an advantage.
